Several years ago I was able to play Cypress Point with a friend. Some say that Cypress Point is tougher to get on than Augusta National. This work of art is situated on the Monterey peninsula and has some of the most breathtaking holes in all of golf. Trust me as good as Pebble Beach is, Cypress is even better. My friend and playing partner for the day told me that one of his dreams in life was to play Cypress before he died. Wow, this is a very successful businessman with a long list of great courses to his credit. Playing this course with a couple of buddies was as good for him as hoisting a check or

putting on the green jacket.

Missouri developer Keith Keltner said his dream would be course ownership instead of playing a particular course. Keith said that owning Pebble Beach would be his ultimate golf fantasy. It would be exciting to own a place where people from all over the world line up to play. My satisfaction would be in knowing they had a great experience. Knowing how Keith and his wife Wanda treat people, I m sure that Pebble would be an even better delight than it is now.

Initial feed back for the article had to do mostly with playing a specific course. It did not lean towards winning a major or being the number one ranked player

in the world. The dreams of most people will not, it seems, let them believe that they can attain superstar status. Why, because realistically that dream has a very low possibility of happening. If we have trouble breaking 85, odds are there will not be a special invite to the US Open. Titleist is not looking to outfit you with clubs and pay you millions because you won the local two man scramble with seven under.

When Big O Sports magazine editor Tom Mast approached me about doing this story on the ultimate golf fantasy, I had to laugh. There is not

a week that goes by that I do not have someone shake their head in disgust at what I do for a living. They say, You mean this is what you do? You get paid to come out, hit balls, tell stories, and make fun of people? Is this really what you do for a living? How do I get your job? I wake up every day and thank God for allowing me to do what I do. Let s see, I have my own business, I travel to beautiful golf destinations all over America, I get to meet exciting people from all walks of life, I get to associate with great companies like Cobra, Pinnacle, Antigua Clothing, and Maui Jim. For goodness sake, a month ago three boxes showed up that contained seventy golf shirts. No charge. Are you kidding my? How cool is that? All this and I get paid to do it. The people at Disney World know my kids by name. Sure, I would love to have won a US Open and I would like to have a green jacket in my closet. Well, you know, the one you get from winning the Masters, not the one I still have from high school prom.
